Look, I respect Phil as a golfer and a generally nice guy, but I'm so sick of the whining about best golf shopRees Jones courses. It's not like anyone else in the field is playing a different course. No matter if it's a ratty muni or Pine Valley, it's going to be the guy who PLAYS THE BEST who wins. It makes me just as peeved when a great young player like Rory whines that he can't play windy links courses.
I watched the action at Dubsdread live, and it wasn't like there was anything unfair about the course. Rose put up a -13,Ping G20 fairway woodso why couldn't anyone else? Or is Rose the new golf god? It had nothing to do with the course.
True greats--like Tiger pre-Escalade--could win on ANY course, Ping Anser Forged Ironsbecause they're truly great golfers.
Phil has been inconsistent all year. But if there was a week where he could do well, this could be considered as the one. And interestingly enough, 2 years ago, he was in the same position entering the Callaway RAZR X HybridTour Championship, and won. He's not a favorite, but he's one to keep an eye on.
Choi's year has been slightly better than Phil's, and his recent history at this tournament has been pretty good. And he's coming off his best result in 2 months, so perhaps he may have some momentum heading into this week.
Poor Stricker. It's clear that his injury is affecting his play, especially in these last few weeks where we have become used to seeing him contend in the playoffs. Can't expect much from him this week,Callaway Razr Hawk Fairway Wood but still a good year overall as the top American golfer. |
